Thanks Refrigerator!

11/9

You wouldn’t believe how much amazingness a refrigerator could bring.

Today I got to go to the dry valleys again‼ The carps had brought the wrong refrigerator out to our lake bonney lab, so a new one had to be slung out and set up and the old one packed up and brought back to McM. They needed a lab person to go out, so Linnah picked me to go. Linnah wants the lab staff to have a bigger presence in the valley camps, and so she wanted one of us to impress the carps with our hard work, since it’s the carps who do a lot of the dry valley stuff. Since this was going to be a physical job, with lots of lifting of heavy objects, Linnah chose me to go help out. So I joined Mark, the construction foreman, and Jeremy, who I knew from summit station, to move the new fridge into the lab and remove the old one and pack it up to be sling-loaded on helicopter back to base.

It was another spectacular helo ride. This pilot took a different route that brought us closer to the Royal Society peaks and over a massive glacier going into the sound. We made a quick stop at Fryxell camp to drop off some stuff and then we headed to Bonney. I helped with the fridge swap, and then we had an hour or so to hang out. I walked a bit on the lake and then chilled inside the little jamesway building. It's occupied now, so there was activity inside with some science groups and the camp manager. The camp manager offered us some tea and snacks and one of the science groups offered us some hot noodles they had cooked up, which were tasty. It's very cozy inside with the heater going, food on the stove, and people hanging around the table. It was like a little mountain hut.
